Since 1969, Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) has brought together two complementary fields of science – technology and business. LUT offers carefully considered specialisation areas in education and research. The specific and unique focus of LUT’s courses is designed to respond to key global challenges. In LUT, it all starts and ends with top-level international research. With regards to education, we are committed to offering the very latest knowledge to our students, arming them with strong tools for working in demanding tasks in their future profession in international working environment.
Our international community consist of 7000 students and experts. More than 10000 students have graduated from LUT with Master of Science degrees in engineering or business and over 400 have earned doctoral degrees in these fields. 25 % of students who started in the autumn of 2011 were foreign nationals.
LUT offers nine high-profile international Master’s programmes which are taught completely in English. These programmes include 18 specialised major possibilities in technology and business. The target of all of these programmes is to provide in-detph studies that prepare students to meet the requirements of the world of work including academic career. In LUT’s programmes, we also value analytical, management, and multicultural conversational skills, as well as the ability to operate in high-pressure professional situations. One of the specialities of LUT is to educate multicultural professionals in double degree programmes with leading Russian universities.

Prerequisits for enrolling
Applicants should have a BEng/B.Sc. degree in the relevant field of study or in a closely related field. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree (AMK) in a related field from a Finnish University of Applied Sciences or with a Russian Spetsialist degree are also eligible to apply.
The BEng/B.Sc. degree must be completed by the end of the application period. Please note: If you are still studying or awaiting results, you can apply during the application period, but you must have completed your degree and submitted a copy of your degree certificate to the university by the date that is announced by September 2012.

LUT doesn’t have full bachelor´s programmes available in English.
By international accreditations LUT promotes the quality management and international comparability of the programmes as well as mobility of the graduates. International accreditations are in accordance with the strategy of the University as they support internationalization of the programmes and professionalisation of the programme management.

Academic years are divided into four periods; two in the Autumn semester, and two in the Spring semester. International students’ semester begins with the compulsory Orientation Days which are arranged in late August and early January each year.

Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) conducts scientific research and provides academic education. For decades already, Lappeenranta University of Technology has been ahead of its time, combining two fields of science that complement each other – technology and business studies. These two unique viewpoints, these two different approaches lay a fertile ground for creating new and developing the old.
The university's areas of strength include energy efficiency and the energy market, strategic management of business and technology, scientific computing and modelling of industrial processes and expertise in Russian business and industry related to the areas above.
The university works in close cooperation with industries, catering to the needs of both the students and businesses. The cooperation began with the forest industry, and contacts have expanded through the years, ranging to a number of different industries.
The quality policy of LUT is based on continuous assessment and development of all the activities in the university and promoting the well-being of the staff and students. The university maintains a quality management system which ensures that the university is able to operate in a reliable, ethical, efficient and quality-oriented way, taking the needs of customers and other stakeholders into consideration.
The quality management system of Lappeenranta University of Technology passed the audit process of The Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council, FINHEEC on 2009. The audit is valid for six years, until March 2015. FINHEEC is a full member of ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education) and it follows ENQAs principles and guidelines.
Several degree programmes of LUT have passed the international accreditation and are awarded the quality labels. By accreditations, the university enhances the international comparability of degrees, facilitates student mobility and gathers valuable ideas to develop education.
The department of Industrial Management is nominated by FINHEEC as a national centre of excellence in university education in 2010-2012.
Friendly and welcoming campus
Campus is concentrated on one location: everything from the library to laboratories, from student services to health care under one roof.
Accommodation
Incoming students apply for accommodation after they have been accepted to study at LUT. The accommodation is arranged by LOAS (Lappeenrannan Opiskelija-asuntosäätiö, Lappeenranta Student Housing Foundation). The housing application will be filled in on-line on LOAS' website.
The student flat is usually a “cellular apartment”, a flat shared between 2-3 students. Each student has a room of his/her own with a lockable door and a shared kitchen and toilet/washing facilities. Each room is furnished with a bed, a large desk, a desk lamp, a chair, a bookshelf and a wardrobe. The kitchen is fully furnished with a kitchen table and chairs and also has a refrigerator, cupboards, a sink, an electric cooker and an oven. However, kitchen utensils are not provided. Bathrooms are fitted with a shower, a sink and a toilet. Mattresses are included in the rent in some of the buildings. For more details, please see LOAS website.
The rent for rooms in LOAS apartments is based on floor space of the room, the age of the building and how recently the building has been renovated. The rent can vary between EUR 200 and EUR 375, and you are also required to pay a deposit of EUR 200. Rent for LOAS apartments must be paid by the 5th day of each month.
LOAS apartments are not mixed. Male and female students can live in the same apartment on request only. Pets are allowed in LOAS apartments as long as they do not disturb neighbours.

lodgings are available both near the campus and in the city centre.

The rent in Lappeenranta Student Housing Foundation (LOAS) apartments covers not only electricity, water, and the use of shared sauna
and laundry facilities, but also an Internet connection in every apartment.

around the corner.
